“There is the mud, and there is the lotus that grows out of the mud. We need the mud in order to make the lotus.” — Thich Nat Hanh

Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) was founded by Gary Craig in the early 1990s. It has gone through many transformations since then but the simple tapping techniques still apply. Gary offers a free EFT tutorial on his website www.emofree.com.

EFT is a form of psychologically oriented acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture.  Acupuncture has been used to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, acupressure was developed with very similar techniques, without the invasiveness of needles.

In EFT, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest and fingers while the client focuses her / his thoughts on a specific problem, whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, phobias, etc. The client then tunes into an issue, spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally while tapping on acupuncture points. In this way EFT uses techniques based upon the wisdom of the East and modern psychology and neurology.  This has been called “Energy Psychology”.

“The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.” Gary Craig.  By stating your problem and tapping on your specific acupuncture points you help to clear this disruption in your energy system. I have found this very empowering for my clients because they literally have a hand in healing themselves in a relatively painless and quick way.  It is also easy to learn and clients can do EFT on a variety of issues for themselves at home.
